Your Badass Rank is a universal stat that applies to all of your characters, and all of your characters contribute to your rank. You get Badass Ranks from completing the challenges outlined in the Badass menu (default J on pc). You can see these challenges in a list on the right-hand side.

Right now I'm at 40736, Many people I talk to about borderlands either did not know that game existed or just did not bother to play. Having +maximum hp in badass ranks can be counterproductive. Hi. My Badass Rank is 35k-40k (I think about 38k atm) and I have about a 10-13% buff on all relevant stats. My question is, at what point do some of you decide that the buffs provided are a little too significant and turn off BA rank bonuses? I've seen some youtube videos of people playing and a lot of them seem to have BA ranks disabled, so is it more or less considered "unclean" to have them
